Dental Sedation

It is not unusual to be anxious or fearful about visiting the dentist or undergoing dental treatment. Many patients tell us that they have had bad experiences with dentists and we know how hard it can be to pluck up the courage to come to visit us!

Our team are highly trained and experienced in dealing with anxious and phobic patients and have over 15 years of experience in dental conscious sedation. Our friendly and approachable staff are on hand to discuss any anxieties you have and will listen to all your concerns.

Helping patients overcome their fears and anxieties is our speciality!

Our sedation techniques are carried out by experienced and skilled dental professionals in all our clinics in Bedford, Luton, Mill Hill, Kenton and Northwood.

What conscious sedation techniques can we offer?

RA – RELATIVE ANALGESIA – This technique uses a mixture of gases, which are inhaled by the patient to produce a feeling of comfort and give a degree of pain relief. This is similar to the “Entonox” commonly used in childbirth. Inhalation sedation produces an overall feeling of well-being (euphoria). Some patients feel like they are floating on a cloud.

ORAL SEDATION (TABLETS) – Oral sedation can also be given as a drink within the practice environment to help relax the patient before their dental treatment. It takes about half an hour for the medication to work. The patient can then opt to have a combination of intravenous or inhalation sedation if necessary for the highly anxious patient.

V – INTRAVENOUS – Intravenous sedation is the administration of a drug or drugs into the blood system by injection usually in the arm or hand and is quite painless. This technique produces a feeling of relaxation and drowsiness. Treatment can then be carried out by using the normal local anaesthetic, which is given as needed during treatments. This is the most effective form of sedation for the most highly anxious patients. You can expect to feel slightly drowsy following sedation. For this reason, all patients undergoing conscious sedation must refrain from driving after their appointment and be accompanied by a suitable escort.

You will be monitored closely throughout using state-of-the-art equipment to ensure complete safety and effectiveness.
