Fillings

Fillings

You only have one set of teeth and gums so it’s important to ensure they remain as healthy as possible.

A filling is used to restore a tooth after it has been damaged by decay. The filling restores the affected tooth to strengthen and protect it from deteriorating further.

Decay from bacteria causes holes or cavities to develop in the enamel, leaving the inside of a tooth vulnerable to infection.

At TiggaSmile we offer a variety of filling types, from composite resin, amalgam or porcelain. We also offer patients white fillings, an attractive alternative to the traditional filling.

The treatment

After choosing the type of filling, the dentist will proceed to treatment. This may entail removing the damaged or decayed part of the tooth. The affected tooth will then be cleaned and prepped before the filling is applied directly to the tooth.

If you choose a white filling, this helps the dentist to retain more of your natural tooth as, unlike a metal filling, the composite resin is bonded directly to the natural too just like a normal filling, a white filling helps to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay, strengthening it and protecting it from deteriorating further. The added benefit of a white filling, however, is that it blends into the mouth, so your treatment is invisible yet effective.

Frequently asked questions

Q

Will the treatment be painful?

A

The placement of a filling is not painful and if the area feels sensitive the dentist may offer you a local anaesthetic so you can have treatment without discomfort.

Q

Will people be able to see my filling?

A

You can choose tooth-coloured or white fillings to avoid detection. Metallic fillings are only used towards the back of the mouth so they are not immediately visible. Please discuss the different options with your dentist.
